A Week Dedicated to Safer Healthcare: Department of Pharmacology, SGRRIM&HS Celebrated the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026
With the blessings, support and guidance of Chairman Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji Maharaj, the Department of Pharmacology, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Dehradun, celebrated the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week from 17th–23rd September 2026.
Centered on the theme “Promoting Rational Use of Medicines through Pharmacovigilance – A Step towards Safer Healthcare,” the week-long celebration featured a series of awareness and academic activities focused on pharmacovigilance, adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting, and the importance of medication safety.
The celebrations commenced on 17th September 2026 with a Walkathon at SGRRIM&HS, in which various faculty members and MBBS students participated with enthusiasm, carrying placards and banners conveying messages on pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting. Dr. Shaktibala Dutta, Head of the Department of Pharmacology, highlighted the importance of reporting suspected ADRs as an essential component of patient safety.
The walkathon was joined by Principal Dr. Utkarsh Sharma, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Anil Malik, and Medical Superintendent Dr. Virendra Verma. MBBS students also distributed informative pamphlets among patients at SMI Hospital, sensitizing them to the importance of reporting adverse reactions due to medicines.
A sensitization session on “ADR Reporting and Its Importance” was conducted for Pharm D students of SGRRU on 18th September 2026. Dr. Suman Bala introduced ADR reporting and explained the role of pharmacovigilance in promoting rational and safe use of medicines, while Mr. Bipin Tamta explained the ADR reporting process.
A poster competition was organized for MBBS Batch 2024 on 19th September 2026, providing students with an opportunity to explore and present diverse aspects of ADR reporting and pharmacovigilance through creative expression.
An academic session for MBBS Batch 2025 was conducted on 22nd September 2026 on the identification of ADRs and the correct reporting of ADRs. A Reel Competition was also held for MBBS students to interpret and communicate the year's pharmacovigilance theme through short-form digital content. All participants in the poster and reel competitions were felicitated with certificates.
The teaching staff of the Department of Pharmacology, including Head of the Department Dr. Shaktibala Dutta; Professors Dr. Suman Bala and Dr. Rashmi Singla; Assistant Professors Dr. Shruti Malhotra, Dr. Manjeeta Gupta and Dr. Sangeeta Roy; Postgraduate Students Dr. Shushrut, Dr. Pallavi and Dr. Paridhi; Pharmacovigilance Associate Mr. Bipin Tamta; Senior Technician Mr. Rajiv Vassi; and Clerk Mr. Sanjeev Gusain, played a pivotal role in the successful completion of the National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026 at SGRRIM&HS, Patel Nagar, Dehradun.
